Ever since I have seen the movie series, The Lord of the Rings, I've been captivated by its world and the idea of hobbits living in cozy, round-door houses nestled in lush, green hills always seemed like a dream I could never quite touch. But this year, something incredible happened—I and my family had the chance to step into a real-life version of Hobbiton! Well, sort of.
We took a trip to Hobbiton Village in Perak, Malaysia, and let me tell you, it was like walking straight into Middle-Earth itself. The village, located just outside the bustling city of Ipoh, offers a unique blend of fantasy and natural beauty, and we were absolutely enchanted.
Hobbitoon Village in Perak is a testament to Malaysia’s ability to blend creativity with nature. Whether you’re a fan of fantasy worlds or simply looking for a unique getaway, this enchanting village promises an unforgettable experience. So, pack your bags, channel your inner hobbit, and embark on a whimsical journey to Hobbitoon Village.
Arrival at Hobbiton Village
As I drove closer to the village, the rolling hills of Perak unfolded before us—lush, green, and dotted with colorful houses straight out of The Hobbit. The moment we entered the gates, we felt as though we had been transported to another world. The air was fresh and cool, and the soft sounds of nature provided the perfect soundtrack to our adventure. The entrance was marked with a large sign and a rustic wooden bridge, setting the tone for what awaited.
Tickets are priced at RM20 (S$5.72) for children and RM40 (S$11.48) for adults.
Exploring the Village
The village itself is not large, but it is perfectly charming. The main feature that stands out immediately is the architecture. Each house has the iconic round door, and the rooftops are made of thick grass, mimicking the hobbits' homes in the movie. The details are what really impressed me—the flowers in every window box, the hand-carved wooden furniture outside the homes, and even the adorable little paths winding through the village, inviting you to explore.
We wandered around, snapping photos and just soaking in the atmosphere. The village's landscape is what truly makes it magical, with rolling hills, stunning gardens, and serene ponds creating the perfect backdrop for a day out. There are little shops scattered throughout, selling hobbit-inspired trinkets, souvenirs, and local treats. I couldn't resist picking up a handmade keychain that reminded me of Bilbo's adventure!
Food and Drink at the Shire Tavern
After walking around for a while, We found our way to the Shire Tavern, a charming little spot where I could rest and enjoy some food. The menu featured a mix of local Malaysian cuisine and Hobbiton-inspired dishes. We tried a delicious, hearty bowl of laksa—spicy and full of flavor—which gave us the energy to continue exploring. For dessert, we had a slice of traditional Malaysian kaya toast, paired with a strong, aromatic cup of tea. It was the perfect way to recharge while soaking in the laid-back atmosphere.
A Hobbiton Experience for All Ages
What I loved most about this place was that it felt like something out of a dream, yet it was very much real. The magic of Hobbiton Village isn't just for fans of the books or films. Whether you're an adventurer, a nature lover, or someone simply seeking peace and quiet, there is something for everyone here. The scenery alone is worth the visit, and the community feel of the place makes it a wonderful spot for families, couples, or solo travelers.
A Memorable Souvenir
Before we left, we couldn’t help but stop by the gift shop one more time. The quaint little items for sale—handmade woodwork, bags, and quirky hobbit-themed souvenirs—made it hard to choose just one thing to take home. Eventually, we picked up a few Hobbiton keychains and a rustic wooden walking stick that would always remind me of my time in Hobbiton Village.
As we bid goodbye to this enchanting place, we couldn’t help but feel a little sad to leave. But we also knew that this trip would stay with us forever, like a precious memory from a beloved story.
